Solar PV panels allow you to convert sunlight into electricity. Even in the UK, households can generate substantial amounts of electricity this way.
With the government “feed-in-tariff”, you will get paid for the electricity you generate, whether you use it or not. So to maximise the savings on your energy bills, it is best to avoid sending it back to the grid, and to use it yourself in some way.
There are many new technologies to help you do this now, which we can include in your PV installation, or retrofit on older systems.
How much money could you save?
As an example, a typical 4kW south facing PV array with no roof shading can generate about 3900 kWh in a year, in East Anglia. This is about the same as the annual electricity usage of the average household in the UK (based on the Energy Saving Trust’s 2012 report).
Most households would not be able to use absolutely all of the solar energy. On it’s own, you could typically use about half of it, therefore halving your electricity bill.
With energy saving technologies, such as a domestic battery and a solar immersion heater, you could get close to using all of the energy yourself. This could bring your electricity bill close to zero, and reducing your gas bill (through solar water heating) as well.
Pairing batteries with an electric vehicle would mean also saving money on your car fuel bills. You may even be able to run your EV entirely from solar energy!

Firstly in general terms Andy & Chris are both very professional and clearly take pride and an interest in their work. The communication has been excellent and they always turn up on time and leave everything very tidy taking care to protect flooring etc. They were also always available by text or phone even out of office hours. Specifically of all the estimates and surveys I had they were the only one who went into the loft, which is essential in order to give a correct estimate. Every other quote I had was delivered by salesmen or “consultants” who offered a very limited choice of type and manufacturer of the equipment. Chris by comparison went to great lengths to research and plan my system and come up with alternatives from the whole market. It was great to have the same people do the whole job from start to finish, so much so I have had two systems fitted and also had them replace the heating systems in two houses. As I have done nearly 20k of business, I do not offer this praise lightly but they are always ready to go the extra mile to help and enhance their reputation. As such I have no hesitation in giving full marks and would happily recommend them to anyone.
